Meeting Lisa, New Orleans, and Marriage:

Lisa was in 6th grade and Alan was in 8th grade and while the pair had a faint recollection of each other, Alan doesn’t remember much of Lisa from his early years. The pair began dating from Lisa’s sophomore year and while Lisa wanted to marry, Alan ended up moving to New Orleans to live with his aunt. The pair tried a long-distance relationship, but things were far from normal, and Lisa ended up with a new guy and eventually fell pregnant. Lisa chose to abort the baby and got back together with Alan after a year and a half. After his move back to Louisiana, Alan was baptized by his father in the Ouachita River.

Eventually, Alan and Lisa got back together, and when Lisa told Alan that she had been molested as a child, Alan had a rude awakening.

“I did not realize for quite some time how much I had hurt Lisa,” says Al. “Not picking her up when we went out in high school but asking her to meet me, never having any money to even buy her a hamburger, introducing her to alcohol and…basically abandoning her.”

Breaking Bonds and saving marriage:

In the late 1980s, things were not good for the Duck hunting business. Alan went to the seminary alongside his brother Jase and things were hard on Lisa. The pair’s marriage looked to be over in 1988 when Lisa had a year-long affair with her ex-boyfriend while Alan worked full-time at White’s Ferry Road Church. And while the affair was brought to light and Lisa admitted the guilt, the pair decided to stick together and Alan eventually forgave Lisa. Even though the decision to forgive was not well received by the family, they got behind Alan and helped him through it. Eventually, Alan and Lisa repaired their marriage and had two baby girls and are proud grandparents today.

The pair often go around the country speaking on abortion and what saved their marriage. For Alan, it is all about forgiveness, and as he puts it,
