Rudolph Bernard Isley was born on April 1, 1939, and at the time of his death, he was 84 years old. The second of Sallye (Bell) and O’Kelly Isley’s six boys was born in Cincinnati. 

His name is Rudolph Bernard Isley. As a young child, he started singing in church, and when he was a teenager, he and three of the other elder Isleys performed and toured the area.

Vernon, the oldest brother, used to sing lead in the group’s early years. When he was 13 years old, a car struck his bicycle, killing him, and Ronald took over as the main singer.

In 1954, while Rudolph, his brothers Ronald, Vernon, and O’Kelly were still just teenagers in Cincinnati, they created the Isley Brothers. Sadly, Vernon’s life was tragically cut short the following year when he was killed in a bike accident. 

The remaining brothers briefly split up before coming back together, with Ronald singing lead while Kelly and Rudolph provided backup. Although Rudolph didn’t always sing in the lead, he was essential to the success of the band. 

On many of their songs, such as “That Lady,” “Nobody But Me,” and “Testify,” which featured a young guitarist named Jimi Hendrix, he contributed to the lyrics and sang background vocals.

Rudy was the best man at his brother Ronnie’s wedding to his backup vocalist Kandy Johnson in 2006. Before relocating to Olympia Fields in Chicago in 2013, Rudy and his wife lived in Otisville, New York for a long time. 

They bought R. Kelly’s previous home in order to be closer to their children and grandchildren.
