Nena was found by Vogue photographer Norman Parkinson while on tour in Stockholm, Sweden, in 1955, when she was 14 years old. Nena came to London, England, in 1957 to seek a career as a high-fashion model. She was immediately successful, and Eileen Ford of the Ford Modeling Agency asked her to pursue her modeling career in New York City.
At the age of 17, she arrived in New York City on the Queen Mary during a snowstorm in March 1958. She continued her career as a top model in New York City, working for Vogue and Harper’s Bazaar. Many fashion photographers, notably Gleb Derujinsky, photographed her.
