Innocent Vareed Thekkethala aka Innocent (born March 4, 1948; Died at 75 years) was an Indian actor, writer, film producer, and politician. He mainly worked in the Malayalam film industry where he played several roles in many movies and series. 

In addition to a few Tamil, Kannada, Hindi, and English films, he mostly played comedic roles. On Sunday, 26 March 2023, Innocent died at VPS Lakeshore Hospital in Kochi, Kerala, at the age of 75.

He was the fifth child and third son of his parents, who had eight kids. Growing up, Thekkethala had a few conflicts with his father, Vareed, because his brothers continued to have outstanding education and became successful lawyers, doctors, and judges. 

There were eight siblings in his family. One of his brothers is Sunny who was managing the Shamannur Match factory alongside his cousins George and Davis. Let me tell you that his cousin George studied medicine at JJM Medical College.

Innocent, a Veteran Malayalam actor and former MP, passed away at VPS Lakeshore Hospital in Kochi on Sunday, 26 March 2023. He was in the hospital for nearly three weeks. He was at the age of 75 when died. He died of difficulties from Pneumonia as confirmed by Dr. V. P. Gangadharan who was treating him.

A part of the medical publication issued by Lakeshore Hospital authorities read, ‘He was under our care and treatment since 3 March 2023. Covid related respiratory issues along with multiple organ failure and a cardiac arrest led to his death.’ The cremation of this actor was held at St. Thomas Cathedral, Iringalakuda with official honors witnessed by a large crowd.

After completing the prayers at home, his lifeless body was taken to the grave of St. Thomas Cathedral, Iringalakuda, where the parents are resting, along with hundreds of grievers. Several celebrities and artists from the world of cinema, politics, and culture also attended the funeral.

Innocent was a married man. On 26 September 1976, he married Alice Thekkethala. Until his death, the couple lived together with each other’s love and support. This actor was survived by his wife and children. Let me tell you that, he and Alice had a son named Sonnet Thekkethala. For more than four decades, the couple lived together but unfortunately, on March 26, 2023, he died at 75 due to several organ failures and sick health.

Innocent was a well-known actor, film producer, and writer. He entered the film industry in 1972 with the movie titled Nritashala. Firstly, he produced a few serious offbeat films, but he was not becoming successful. In the long span of his acting career, he has worked in more than 700 films, mostly in comedy roles, especially in Malayalam. Thekkethala has also acted in a few Tamil and Hindi films. 

This made him almost a phenomenon in the Malayalam comedy scene, also making him a hot choice for mimicry artists. His popularity can be measured by the fact that many frontline directors in Malayalam like Priyadarshan, Satyan Anthikkad, Fazil, and Kamal rarely made films without him. He has proven his acting skills in several roles in several films.

During the 1970s, Innocent was the Irinjalakkuda Mandalam Secretary of the Revolutionary Socialist Party. In 1979, he contested the Irinjalakkuda municipal council elections as a Revolutionary Socialist Party-backed candidate and won that election. He was rumored to be a Left Democratic Front (LDF) supported the independent candidate from the Irinjalakkuda assembly constituency in the 2006 Kerala Legislative Assembly elections but this did not happen. 

He won the 2014 Lok Sabha elections from Chalakudy Lok Sabha constituency in Thrissur as an independent nominee supported by the LDF. He lost in the Lok Sabha elections 2019 to a UDF candidate named Benny Behanan.
