Her husband Taylor had big office blockbusters including An Officer and a Gentleman and The Idolmaker, while the Emmy winner had made a breakthrough with The Long Good Friday in 1980.
Helen was cast in Taylor’s 1985 picture White Nights, bringing them together. Taylor recounted their meeting in a 2006 AARP piece on Helen, saying he made her wait for her audition. Hackford said, “It was a strange way to meet Helen because she is a lovely person, but she didn’t hold back her fury”. The Oscar-winning pair married in their early 50s.

The talented actor has three siblings. She has a brother Peter Basil, a sister Katherine, and a late brother Ian Mirren. Her older sister Katherine teaches, while her younger brother Peter plays jazz bass.
Unfortunately, her other brother Ian Mirren died early. Helen has said in interviews that her siblings shaped her love of the arts and supported her profession.
