Florinda Meza García is a Mexican actress, comedian, television producer, and screenwriter. Her name is Spanish, her first/parental surname is Meza, and her second/maternal name is Garcia.

Florinda Meza is known for her iconic role Doña Florinda in the Mexican comedy series El Chavo del Ocho, La Chimoltrufia in Chespirito, and her other roles in El Chapulin Colorado.

Early Life and Childhood

Florinda Meza was born on Februray 8, 1949 in Juchipila, Zacatecas, Mexico. She is the daughter of Emilia Gracia and Hector Meza. Her parents, Hector Meza and Emilia García, separated at a young age.

After that, Florinda moved to live with their grandparents and her brothers. She and her brothers did not have a smooth and luxurious childhood. The hardship made her determined to build a good life for herself at an early age.

Roberto Gómez Bolaños AKA Chespirito

Florinda Meza was married to her long-time lover and partner, Roberto Gómez Bolaños.

Roberto Gómez Bolaños, aka Chespirito, or “Little Shakespeare,” was a Mexican actor, comedian, screenwriter, humorist, director, producer, and author. He was born on February 21, 1929, in Mexico City. He was the second child of his parents.

Before stepping into acting, Gómez was an amateur boxer. He graduated from the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM) in Mechanical Engineering but never pursued his career in the field. 

Meza and Bolaños first began their relationship romantically back in 1977. This was when the two of them were the main actors in the TV series El Chavo del Ocho. However, before being in a relationship, Gomez chased Meza for five years. 

At first, they received negative criticism for their relationship, but Meza came forward and defended herself. She said boldly that she was not a husband snatcher and that Bolaños had his own problems.

After the production of Chespirito ended, Meza and Gómez Bolaños began touring intensively in 1995. After Touring for a long time together, they finally decided to get married.

On November 19, 2004, they tied the knot in a civil ceremony. Even though they were together for a long time, they never had a child.

Chespirito’s death

Unfortunately, On November 28, 2014, Chespirito died from heart failure as a complication of Parkinson’s disease in his home in Cancún, Quintana Roo, Mexico, at age 85.

Roberto Gómez Bolaños, aka Chespirito, is greatly counted as one of the most renowned Spanish-language comedians of the 20th century.

He was buried at the Panteón Francés in Mexico City on December 1, 2014. It was a private funeral on Saturday, and a public one was held on Sunday at Estadio Azteca. About 40,000 fans attended it.

Meza does not permit fans to visit his tomb. Instead, it is guarded by security, along with security cameras.

Career

Her husband, Chespirito, cast Florinda, to play the role of “Doña Florinda,” which later became very famous in the TV sitcom El Chavo del Ocho. The sitcom later became a major international hit. The show lasted from February 26, 1973, to January 7, 1980, but the sketch was there till 1992.

The duration of this sitcom was when Florinda Meza and Roberto Gómez Bolaños began a lifelong romance. During her time on the television series Chespirito, she was also known to have played Édgar Vivar’s character, Botija’s wife “María Expropiación Petronila Lascuráin y Torquemada”.

Meza was famously known as “La Chimoltrufia” in the sketch “Los Caquitos”. This was alongside Roberto Gómez Bolaños, who played the role of Chómpiras.
